This class is interesting

I really had a vague idea of how this class would be when I signed up for it. I saw the word “youtube” in the course name and impulsively chose it.

I actually agree with Murray (after second thought, I disagree with Manovich) that the digtial medium is a single medium. It’s a way the present society expresses itself–in career, interaction, and for personal ways of expression. It’s not really something that should be studied.

There’s youtube, facebook, xanga, postsecret, and so many forms of interaction on the internet. It’s not really something that should be studied but rather just accepted as a new medium of society.

I have to disagree with the idea that new media shouldn’t be studied. It probably has a lot to do with my liking of all things dealing with culture, language, and anthropology; but to me, every part of culture is open to study and debate. What does it mean? How does it define our past, present and most importantly, our future? Not that new media shouldn’t be accepted, but rather, that society’s eager acceptance of all things internet shows just how important new media is to our culture.
